Panama
The home of Gesha. Small, expensive, extraordinary coffees from the Boquete and Volcán highlands.
Panama produces very little coffee and most of what reaches the UK is Gesha, the Ethiopian landrace variety that Hacienda La Esmeralda made famous in 2004. It is the special occasion coffee: brew it as filter, weigh everything, and drink it on its own. A 100g bag is a sensible way in. Catuaí and Typica lots from the same farms are worth trying and cost a third as much.
